Let’s pretend that the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee could bypass congress (very wishful thinking!), Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee, and the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts to build a portfolio of non-circulating legal tender commemoratives to increase collector sales. Today’s poll, which will run for two weeks, asks what the U.S. Mint should do with its pretend freedom.
For the record, I am in favor of allowing the U.S. Mint to increase the offerings under the American Eagle program. The U.S. Mint has done some of that to this point with the enhanced reverse uncirculated coins and special sets. There should be more special offerings or different offerings. The U.S. Mint could change the reverse designs to honor different themes like they have been doing on the reverse of the platinum American Eagle coins.
I would also like to see more of the enhanced uncirculated American Silver Eagle coins. The way it enhanced Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty design makes it a great looking collectible.
Would like to see the limit raised on the annual number of commemorative coin programs.
I think a reduction in the number of products would help the collecting community imensely. I would like to see more small denomination precious metal coins. Bring back the platinum and buffalos.
Too many products are being offered now which may drive some collectors away from the hobby. Would like to see more historically significant commemorative coins rather than Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Baseball coins. Would also like to see .999 silver or gold in the commem’s with crazy low number of coins issued. This may drive up the value of the coins while creating more interest in the hobby. Imagine what a 1776 Declaration of Independence .999 silver or gold coin with only 1,776 coins issued would be like to own.
the us mint should make it more interesting and do designs of the past like the buffalo’s and 2009 high relief. bust dollars seated liberty or maybe paper notes like copy of the 1899 $5.oo indian note. I don’t see any thing coming out in near future that will intice people like the new buffallos and the 2009 high relief $20.00 gold. thanks . Gregory hawke
